YUNGBBQ — PROMOTIONAL STYLING & CUSTOM DURAG DESIGN

In 2019, as YungBBQ’s dance videos and character-driven performances were gaining widespread attention online, designer Khalida Ali styled the rising digital entertainer for a promotional photoshoot. YungBBQ would grow into one of social media’s most recognizable dance personalities, building an Instagram audience of more than 1.5 million followers and receiving coverage from publications including Teen Vogue and Essence.
Khalida developed the shoot’s bold, color-driven look around two Anonymousplugs designs: an iridescent blue-and-purple durag and a sculptural purple turtleneck sweatshirt. She completed the styling with a black-and-white checkerboard jacket and holographic accessory, creating a layered visual identity that complemented YungBBQ’s expressive personality and unmistakable presence.
Five years later, Khalida was commissioned to create an entirely new custom design for YUNGBBQ. The 2024 piece pushed the durag far beyond its traditional proportions: a metallic-red design with a dramatic floor-length train, oversized vertical YUNGBBQ lettering and a voluminous white tulle finish.
From the front, the durag presented a polished, personalized look. From behind, the extended train revealed the full scale of the construction, transforming YUNGBBQ’s name into a commanding visual centerpiece. The result was created for a personality known for movement, performance and standing out online.
The two projects mark the evolution of a creative connection that began during YUNGBBQ’s rise in 2019—from Khalida designing and styling her promotional look to being commissioned five years later to create a signature Anonymousplugs statement piece specifically for her.
